DreamYard Project

Good Neighbor Grant

Located in the Bronx, DreamYard uses the arts to inspire youth, public schools, and communities through programs that develop artistic voice, nurture young peoples’ desire to make change, and cultivate the skills necessary to reach positive goals. Based on core values of artistry, character, empowerment, and scholarship, which are aligned with the NYC Department of Education Blueprint for the Arts and the NY State Learning Standards, DreamYard’s programs encourage young people to pursue educational pathways towards higher learning, meaningful careers, and social action.

In addition to core education programs at the DreamYard Art Center, DreamYard Preparatory High School, and in public schools throughout the Bronx, DreamYard is an innovator in using public and community-based art projects to strengthen the neighborhood’s cultural fabric and civic core. The projects include murals, residential installations, galleries and revitalization of open spaces such as Hayden Lord Park, a new community art park in the University Heights neighborhood.  Art projects are integrated into affordable housing buildings, in the Art Center, and on public walls of small businesses – effectively transforming the community through the vibrancy of art.

The Illumination Fund supported the expansion of public art projects and community development work at the DreamYard Art Center and in the surrounding neighborhood.
